Carlos Espí scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Espanyol and again in a victory over Elche, and was only denied a third by a matter of millimetres against Real Betis.
The 21-year-old striker, who joined Real Madrid from Levante on 30 July for €25 million on a contract to 2031, spoke to AS from the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas as he prepared for his first call-up to Spain's under-21s.
Espí said the call-up had given him extra motivation, even if a step up to the senior side still feels a long way off: "I knew I had a chance, the under-21 call-up has motivated me a lot.
"I've got plenty of desire to support and help the team in whatever way I can. Hopefully, but I'm here on my first call-up with the under-21s and I'm really eager to give my all, to help the team. I have to be ready."
Since arriving at Valdebebas, Espí has become a training-ground favourite of José Mourinho, and has struck up a close bond with the head coach.
"With the career Mourinho has had, for him to welcome me the way he did from day one, to be so demanding with me... It makes me feel more comfortable, more secure, with more confidence. It's a privilege that Mourinho is like that with me."
Thibaut Courtois has nicknamed him "a beast" after seeing him train, a label Espí takes as encouragement rather than pressure.
"That players with that level and that career talk about me like that... It motivates me, it makes me trust in myself. It's an enormous privilege, really."
Mourinho's specific instruction, Espí revealed, is to work in tandem with Kylian Mbappé whenever he comes off the bench.
"He always tells me to give everything. Whether it's 5, 10 or 15 minutes. To give it all. And to help Kylian, who's next to me, that we complement each other up front. To be in the box, because at any moment it could fall to me... And in this case, twice, almost three times, it has."
Espí left Levante after 66 appearances and 20 goals.
On Real Madrid's derby defeat to Atlético, and the mood at the club heading into the break, he said: "One wants to win, especially a derby away at Atleti. We're gutted, obviously, but there are plenty of games left. We have to stick together, without dropping our heads, and I think we'll turn it around. This break comes at a good time for us to recharge and look forward."
Asked, finally, who he would give the Ballon d'Or to, Espí did not hesitate: "Mbappé."
