The journalist and pundit has been hugely impressed by the Portuguese coach's impact since returning to the Bernabéu, arguing that Mourinho has repaired a dressing room that had become divided by individual rivalries.
Asked whether he had fallen in love with Mourinho again, Roncero was emphatic in his response.
“Totally. Mou has rescued the competitive pride that was lost last season. He has recovered the unity of the dressing room, where there was an childish war of egos that was destroying Real Madrid's DNA. He has managed to get everyone rowing in the same direction and excited about defending the badge,” Roncero said on Carrusel.
He pointed to an example that, in his view, demonstrated the difference in the players' attitude under the current manager. After returning from Athens at three o'clock in the morning, the squad agreed to go to sleep at Valdebebas rather than travel home, allowing them to gain an additional two hours of rest.
“Last year it would have been impossible for the coach to convince them to do that. Mourinho has achieved it. He is a leader,” Roncero added.
The pundit also believes the improvement extends well beyond the atmosphere within the squad. He praised the football Madrid are producing, arguing that the team has become increasingly dominant since the Clásico.
“Tactically, in case anyone had doubts, Madrid play very good football. Since the Clásico, they have dominated matches,” he said.
Roncero sees similarities between the current side and the successful Madrid teams Mourinho previously led, when the club established a remarkable record under the Portuguese.
“He is reminding me of Mourinho's record-breaking Madrid. He is the leader of this project, and he was the man they needed.”
The comments come after another convincing result for Madrid, who defeated Valencia 3-0 at Mestalla to extend their winning run to eight matches across LaLiga and the Champions League.
For Roncero, however, the significance of Mourinho's work is about more than the latest results. He believes the manager has restored a collective mentality, giving the players a shared purpose and reconnecting the dressing room with the expectations of the club.
