Either way, the 28-year-old is set to become Rayo Vallecano's new first-choice left-back for the season.
Chavarría's exit to Stamford Bridge — reported at fees ranging from around €19m to €25m depending on the outlet, with variables attached — represents the biggest sale in Rayo's history and left the club needing a specialist replacement, a search that had already been complicated by the earlier departure of Alfonso "Pacha" Espino.
The Catalan full-back made 105 LaLiga appearances across four seasons in Vallecas, playing a key role in the club's run to last season's Conference League final, where they were narrowly beaten by Crystal Palace. Sporting director David Cobeño's search took in several other names before Pedrosa emerged as the preferred option, including Álex Moreno, Javi López, Sergio Akieme and Rafael Obrador.
Pedrosa, born in Barcelona, came through Espanyol's academy before establishing himself in LaLiga and moving to Sevilla as a free agent in 2023, signing a five-year contract at the time. He struggled for regular football at the Sánchez-Pizjuán and spent last season on loan at Elche, where he made 30 appearances and contributed a goal and two assists, form that has now made him one of Rayo's most sought-after targets to solve their left-back problem before the market closes.
Rayo's pursuit had taken several turns over recent weeks. The club had at one stage prioritised Girona's Álex Moreno, but grew frustrated waiting on that deal to progress and reactivated their interest in Pedrosa once talks with his camp showed renewed momentum.
Head coach Beñat San José has been left without a recognised specialist at left-back since the summer departures of Chavarría and Espino, making the position one of the club's clearest priorities in the closing stretch of the window.
