The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder spoke to the media at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, where Spain will face Croatia, with Fabián returning to his home city while looking to extend a personal record that currently stands at 51 appearances for the national team without defeat.
"I'm happy with the personal and collective statistic. Hopefully we can keep winning for a long time," Fabián said.
"I don't like comparing one national team with another. In 2010 they were unique players. We are also doing something unique."
Fabián admitted he was unaware that he was approaching Carlos Marchena's record for appearances without defeat.
"I didn't know I was close to Marchena. It's always nice to have a record of not losing," he said.
The 30-year-old also stressed the collective strength of Luis de la Fuente's side rather than focusing on individual players.
"We have good players and a very good team. We are a national team that looks more at the collective than the individual," Fabián said.
The midfielder was also asked about his candidacy for the Ballon d'Or after a strong year at club and international level. He did not want to turn the subject into a campaign but argued that recognition for his performances was legitimate.
"It's not about campaigning, but recognising your work. I've had a great year," he said.
"When you do things well, you like people to recognise your work."
Fabián also spoke warmly about Real Betis, the club he supported as a boy and where he began his senior career. He continues to follow the club and admitted he would like to finish his career there.
"I still try to watch all the matches. I'm a Betis fan and I'd like to finish my career here," he said.
Returning to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán also brought back memories for Fabián, who recalled his first Seville derby victory.
"I have good memories because it was the first derby I won. It was January 6 and hopefully tomorrow will go just as well for us," he said.
Fabián was also asked about Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic and highlighted the experience and versatility he brings.
"Everyone knows what a good player he is. He's played for the biggest clubs in Europe. He's powerful, quick and can play in several positions because of his versatility. We know the danger he and Modric can create," Fabián said.
His relationship with Pedri was another topic during the press conference. Fabián said the two midfielders have a strong relationship and stressed that competition for places is part of playing for Spain.
"It's magnificent. We're here to help and whenever the coach thinks I have to play, I'm grateful," he said.
"You have to be at 100 per cent because otherwise there are many teammates who can play instead of you."
