Dzenan Pejcinovic has attracted interest from Benfica and multiple Bundesliga clubs following Wolfsburg's relegation from the top flight, but the Germany under-21 international has made clear his preference is to remain in Germany.

Kicker reported that Benfica have been the most aggressive outside force in the market for Pejcinovic, but the striker's camp has signalled he would rather continue his development in the Bundesliga. Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg have all made enquiries โ€” all three are established Bundesliga clubs with European football to offer next season.

Pejcinovic, who stands 1.90 metres tall and operates as a central striker, is contracted at VfL Wolfsburg until June 2029. The club's position is that he will be central to their bid for immediate Bundesliga promotion and they are not looking to sell.

However, VfL Wolfsburg have acknowledged internally that if an extraordinary offer arrived โ€” the figure cited by Kicker is significantly above โ‚ฌ20 million โ€” they would consider their position.

He made 26 appearances in all competitions for Wolfsburg this season, the majority coming in the second half of the campaign as the club's form deteriorated and he earned more opportunities following the departure of another striker in January.

Several Wolfsburg first-team regulars are expected to leave following relegation. Patrick Wimmer, Konstantinos Koulierakis and Christian Eriksen have all been linked with exits.

The loss of senior players around him makes Pejcinovic's situation more complicated โ€” on one hand it could offer him greater prominence in the squad during the promotion push, on the other it risks leaving him in the Championship for another season if first-division ambitions are prioritised.
