The 21-year-old joined Stuttgart from VfL Wolfsburg during the summer after a prolonged transfer battle, with the Champions League club paying €25 million for his services.
That fee makes Pejcinovic the second-most expensive signing in Stuttgart's history, but the striker insists it will not change the expectations he places on himself.
“Of course the fee is not small, especially for Stuttgart. I know that I am the second-most expensive signing in the club's history. But that does not make me say that I have to produce even more now.”
“I have my own ambition, and that is enough,” Pejcinovic told kicker.
The forward made an immediate impression after scoring a hat-trick in Stuttgart's opening cup match, but his goalscoring form has stalled since then.
He has failed to score in the matches that have followed, creating an early test of his ability to deal with the expectations attached to such a significant transfer.
Pejcinovic is not allowing the drought to undermine his confidence, however, pointing out that difficult periods are an unavoidable part of a striker's career.
“There will certainly be several phases in my life when, as a striker, I don't score goals.”
The challenge, he believes, is to remain calm rather than allowing the absence of goals to affect his overall game.
“On the one hand, such phases are difficult, but on the other it is also important to remain calm and trust in your qualities.”
VfB Stuttgart made a significant investment because of Pejcinovic's potential, and his early performances have already demonstrated why the club were willing to make him one of their most expensive signings.
The striker's immediate task is now to turn his opportunities into goals and build on the impact he made in the cup.
For Pejcinovic, the transfer fee is ultimately secondary to his own expectations. Rather than allowing Stuttgart's €25m investment to dictate his approach, he believes his personal ambition already provides enough motivation.
