The Hungarian midfielder has been named among the substitutes for Liverpool's Under-21s in Tuesday's Premier League 2 fixture against West Ham United, his first appearance in a matchday squad since rejoining the club. Alvin Ayman, Mor Talla Ndiaye and Joe Bradshaw all come into the starting XI as three changes from the side that beat Leeds United in its last league outing.
Farkas, 19, first joined Liverpool's academy in 2021 after arriving from Hungarian club Kecskemeti TE. He left a year later for Blackburn Rovers, where he spent four seasons progressing through the youth ranks and gaining senior loan experience with National League sides City of Liverpool FC and Prescot Cables.
His contract at Ewood Park expired this summer, and Liverpool confirmed on their official website that he has returned to the club on a free transfer following an extended trial in which he impressed during pre-season with the Under-21s.
The move reunites him with younger brother Erik, who is on Liverpool's books at Under-18 level, and makes him the fifth Hungarian currently on the club's books alongside Milos Kerkez, Dominik Szoboszlai and goalkeeper Armin Pecsi.
Farkas capped two seasons on Blackburn's books with 10 Premier League 2 appearances last term, along with four outings and a goal in the Premier League Cup. He has also represented Hungary at Under-19 level.
Confirming his exit from Blackburn on social media over the summer, Farkas thanked those who had helped his development during his time at the club.
"My time has come to an end with Blackburn," Farkas wrote on Instagram. "I've met some amazing people, players over the past four years that has helped me grow as a person and as a player. I would like to thank everyone. Excited for the challenges that come next!"
Liverpool are expected to hand Farkas a squad role with the Under-21s this season under Rob Page, with his versatility across midfield seen as a useful asset. Whether he can force his way into regular contention will become clearer as the Premier League 2 campaign progresses.
