Asked whether other clubs had been in contact before he agreed to succeed the sacked Tedesco, Palladino said the fit with Bologna felt right from the outset.
"Here I felt great trust, and in a very short time we came to an agreement. I felt that at this point in my career I needed to open a new cycle and build something important," he said.
"I'm someone who trusts their instincts, and here I felt the spark straight away. I'm ambitious, and the club is like me: the lads need to feel the same way. This is an important club with fantastic supporters who deserve the best."
On the squad's physical condition after watching from home for much of the season so far, Palladino said he had studied the group in detail before accepting the role.
"I've only seen Bologna-Lazio live, the others from home on TV. I've studied every last detail of this squad. If I'm here, it's because I believe in these lads, who have great values. Otherwise I would have turned it down, as I did with other offers that came my way," he said. "The physical condition needs work, and the lads know that."
Asked how much courage it took to accept the Bologna job, Palladino drew a contrast with his decision to take his first senior role at Monza.
"Before Monza-Juventus, president Berlusconi asked me if I had the courage to start from the beginning. I had it then; here I didn't need courage, it was enough to speak with the president and the directors and feel that trust. I felt the spark straight away," he said.
Palladino also addressed whether he had held talks with Bologna before his time at Napoli.
"I've known this ownership for two years, and we've built a cordial relationship every time we've played against each other or whenever I've run into the directors. That relationship of synergy remained, and we only spoke around the Bologna-Lazio game, when I came to study Tedesco and Gattuso, but there were no other contacts because I was at home in Naples," he said.
