Crystal Palace have made a formal approach to Coventry City manager Frank Lampard, 47, about replacing outgoing head coach Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park this summer, according to reports.

The Sun has reported that Crystal Palace sounded out the former Chelsea, Everton and Derby County manager after Lampard masterminded Coventry's Championship title win and promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years. Fulham have also registered interest should their own head coach Marco Silva depart when his contract expires.

Lampard took charge at Coventry in November 2024, transforming a side in danger of dropping into League One into champions. He averaged 1.85 points per game across the campaign β€” a better return than Glasner's 1.62 at Palace.

His contract runs for another 12 months, but Coventry owner Doug King has openly admitted he may struggle to retain him and is unlikely to stand in his way.

Palace believe Lampard can sustain what Glasner built at Selhurst Park β€” an FA Cup triumph last season, the Community Shield and a first European final in the club's history β€” while bringing his own high-energy, attacking style built around a 4-2-3-1 system.

Lampard, who is aware that Coventry's resources in the Premier League may be limited, has not yet committed to the role and is weighing his options. Thomas Frank, the former Brentford head coach, and ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane β€” who has impressed at Hungarian club Ferencvaros β€” are also on Palace's shortlist. Spanish manager Marcelino Toral remains the bookmakers' favourite.

Coventry have already made contingency plans, holding informal talks with Derby County manager John Eustace as a potential replacement should Lampard leave.

Palace are heading to Leipzig on May 27 for the Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano. They need a manager in place before preseason. Lampard, back in the spotlight after the best sustained run of his managerial career, has every reason to weigh his options carefully β€” and every reason to be in demand.
