His exit comes two months after Matthias Jaissle succeeded Eddie Howe as head coach, and it severs the last remaining tie to his uncle's stint at St James' Park, which ended in July.
Andy Howe was hired as head of first-team technical scouting before being promoted to assistant head of first-team recruitment, and he continued in the role after Eddie's exit, playing an influential part in Newcastle United's summer signings under new sporting director Ross Wilson.
His most significant work came during the difficult summer of 2025, when he effectively led Newcastle's transfer business from the front as the club dealt with Alexander Isak's push to leave for Liverpool. Isak was eventually sold on deadline day, and Newcastle finished 12th the following season. Howe is credited with a major role in signing Sandro Tonali, and he also recommended Malick Thiaw, the club's current stand-in captain, last summer.
The departure follows that of chief scout Steve Nickson, who left Newcastle earlier this year to become Wrexham's first sporting director. It also comes only days after Newcastle gathered their scouting staff in the North East for a post-summer debrief to set out future objectives.
Howe was highly rated within the club and had been promoted earlier this year, which makes his decision to leave feel like a natural conclusion to his time there rather than a reaction to any specific event. His uncle Eddie had previously credited him with a role in bringing Bruno Guimarães, Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Harrison Ashby to the club.
