The Sweden international has been sidelined since suffering the injury after an impressive start to the campaign. Elanga scored twice in his first three Premier League appearances, having joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2025.
His absence also ruled him out of Sweden’s first international gathering of the season, disrupting a promising start at both club and international level.
There had been reports suggesting the 24-year-old might not return until around Christmas. However, Jaissle has indicated that Elanga is progressing well, although Newcastle will not rush his rehabilitation.
“It was a tough injury, and he will be out for a longer period. But he has a fantastic attitude, so perhaps he will be back a little earlier than expected,” Jaissle said, according to the Chronicle.
The Newcastle manager’s comments offer encouragement, but they do not provide a confirmed date for Elanga’s return. The club will continue to assess his recovery before deciding when he can resume full training and competitive action.
Elanga’s early-season form had made him an important attacking option, with his pace and direct running providing Newcastle with a threat from wide areas. His two goals in three league matches underlined the impact he was beginning to make before the injury interrupted his progress.
The winger had previously recorded three goals and two assists in 49 competitive appearances during his debut season at Newcastle, following his move from Nottingham Forest.
His return would give Jaissle another option in the attacking line as the campaign develops. For now, the priority is ensuring that the injury heals properly rather than setting an arbitrary deadline.
Jaissle praised Elanga’s professionalism and suggested that his determination could help him make up ground during rehabilitation. Nevertheless, the manager’s cautious approach reflects the need to avoid a premature comeback that could lead to another setback.
Newcastle United will hope the Sweden international can return before the longer timeframe initially reported, but his availability remains dependent on how his recovery progresses over the coming weeks.
