Amara Nallo has returned to Liverpool after his loan spell at HJK Helsinki was cut short by an injury, bringing his time in Finland to an early end there.

The 19-year-old centre-back joined HJK on a season-long loan in July and made three appearances, starting all three matches.

Nallo featured twice in the Veikkausliiga and also played in HJK’s Europa Conference League qualifying campaign. However, an injury kept him out throughout September and he will not recover in time to feature again before the Finnish season ends.

HJK have therefore agreed to terminate the loan early, with Nallo returning to Liverpool to continue his rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre.

The defender joined Liverpool from West Ham United in 2023 and has made three senior appearances for the Reds. His loan to HJK was intended to provide regular first-team football as he continued his development away from Anfield.

Instead, his spell in Finland has been limited by the injury after he made three starts for the Helsinki club.

Nallo had previously captained Liverpool Under-21s and remains regarded as a promising young defender within the club.

His return to Merseyside will allow Liverpool’s medical staff to oversee his recovery before the next stage of his development is decided.

For HJK, the premature end to the agreement means the club lose a defender who had been given an opportunity to gain valuable senior experience during the closing months of the Finnish season.

Liverpool had hoped the Finnish loan would give Nallo a sustained run of senior football, but the injury has prevented him from completing the season as planned.

The club can now focus on his rehabilitation before assessing his next opportunity, with the defender still at an important stage of his development.

The return also gives Liverpool the chance to monitor his recovery closely after a disrupted first spell of senior football outside England.

Nallo will now work towards full fitness at Liverpool before the club considers the next step in his development at the club.
