Moyes faces Everton call after Barry forces rethink

David Moyes admits he has another major attacking decision to make after Thierno Barry’s late brace threw Everton’s striker battle wide open ahead of Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

The Blues boss has rotated between Barry and Beto for much of the season, searching for consistency in a forward line that has often struggled to find rhythm.

Beto appeared to have taken control of the role after scoring four goals in his previous three matches, but the Guinea international was forced out after suffering concussion in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

He returned to the starting line-up against Manchester City, only for Barry to come off the bench and score twice in a dramatic 3-3 draw.

“A little bit when somebody scores two goals.”

“Beto has been quite consistent in the last month or so, so there’s another argument to that.”

Moyes admitted the competition for places has never really gone away.

“I think all season I’ve had a decision to make.”

“We’ve chopped and changed a little bit with them to find who’s in form, who is scoring, who looks good in training.”

The Everton manager also refused to rule out starting both forwards together, though he admitted that would require changes elsewhere in the team.

Away from the striker debate, Moyes also offered an update on Tyler Dibling after the £35 million summer signing endured a difficult first campaign at Goodison Park.

“He’s a young player with a lot of potential.”

For Moyes, selection headaches are nothing new.

But with the season closing and momentum suddenly building, the decisions now carry far more weight.
