According to FussballTransfers and Bild, Moreira gave Bayer Leverkusen his agreement to move to the Bundesliga side following personal conversations with the club's new head coach Carles Martínez Novell — who knows the player well from his time managing in French football and is understood to have been decisive in convincing Moreira that Leverkusen is the right destination.
Both clubs are working toward completing the deal as quickly as possible. Lyon face a financial compliance deadline at the end of June imposed by France's financial oversight body, the DNCG, and must generate transfer income before that date. Leverkusen, for their part, have a summer transfer budget of approximately €60 million — expandable through sales — and want planning certainty ahead of their return to Champions League football.
Moreira joined Lyon just twelve months ago from Sporting Lisbon's reserve side for €2 million. His debut season in Ligue 1 was exceptional: eight goals and eleven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
That return made him one of the division's standout attackers and caught the attention of Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, who are also monitoring his situation. At this stage, however, Leverkusen are the club in the lead.
Sporting Lisbon retain a 20 per cent sell-on clause from the original deal, meaning they stand to earn approximately €5-6 million from any sale in this price range.
For Leverkusen, the arrival of Moreira would continue a summer of productive early business. The club have already confirmed the signing of Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha BSC for €8-9 million and have set their ambitions squarely on returning to the upper echelons of the Bundesliga under Martínez.
Lyon's financial urgency and Leverkusen's willingness to move quickly make this a deal with momentum on both sides.
