The 19-year-old academy graduate came off the bench at La Cartuja to make his league debut on Sunday and marked the occasion with a superb finish in the 96th minute.
Morante received the ball between the lines and wasted no time in shooting, sending a left-footed effort towards goal. A slight deflection off a defender wrong-footed Osasuna goalkeeper Aitor Fernández, allowing the ball to find the net and complete Betis's five-goal performance.
The young forward celebrated by mimicking a bullfighter, a gesture that nodded to his father, whose real name is José Antonio Morante Camacho and who is one of Spain's best-known toreros.
It was a memorable moment for a player whose progress through the Betis youth system has attracted growing attention. He had already made his senior debut in an official match in January, appearing against PAOK in the Europa League, and has continued to work between the first team and the reserve side.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini has been careful not to rush his development, but believes training alongside experienced players can help him take the next steps in his career.
“We have been managing Morante's development since last season. He has already played in the Copa del Rey, trains with the first team and also plays for the reserve side,” Pellegrini said.
“He still has a lot to learn, but working with players such as Isco, Giovani Lo Celso and Pablo Fornals will be good for him. I'm delighted he scored. It wasn't a coincidence, because he strikes the ball very well.”
The coach also sees the youngster as another option for a squad competing across several competitions, with the demands of LaLiga and European football requiring depth and flexibility.
Morante's goal capped a 5-2 victory in which Isco scored twice, Ez Abde added a goal and Ante Budimir put through his own net. Budimir and Raúl García de Haro scored for Osasuna.
For Morante, however, the night belonged to a personal milestone: his first LaLiga appearance, a stoppage-time goal and a celebration that connected his emerging football career with his father's very different sporting world.
