According to Sky Sport, Monza are just one step from finalising the arrival of Gustavo Varela, a 2005-born forward currently on the books at Benfica. Documents are said to already be changing hands, with the move potentially completed as early as Thursday. Varela would join on a permanent transfer from Benfica ahead of the new season, following Monza's promotion back to the top flight.
The Varela deal comes alongside the imminent arrival of Ricardo Mangas, a Portuguese defender born in 1998 who is on his way out of Sporting. Mangas returned to Portugal at the start of last season when Sporting signed him from Spartak Moscow, but now looks set for a fresh move to Italy. A product of Benfica's youth academy, Mangas has also had spells at Desportivo das Aves, Mirandela, Boavista, Bordeaux and Vitoria Guimaraes over the course of his career.
Both signings would represent fresh reinforcements for Juric as he prepares his squad for the challenge of Serie A survival following promotion. Monza are also said to be keeping tabs on Inter duo Akinsanmiro and Massolin as their business in the transfer market continues.
The moves underline the club's intent to move quickly this summer, with Monza looking to give their new head coach as strong a platform as possible ahead of a difficult return to the top flight.
Varela's arrival would add a young attacking option with room to develop, while Mangas brings experience across multiple leagues and positions defensively, having featured for clubs in Portugal and France over the course of his career to date.
