That leaves Pervis Estupiñán as the likely long-term option on the left after a proposed move to Aston Villa fell through. Ruben Amorim rates the Ecuadorian, and keeping him is a far cheaper solution than sourcing a new signing; Estupiñán made 22 appearances last season, scoring once, including a crucial goal in the derby against Inter.
AC Milan's business at the other end of the pitch is more advanced. Christopher Nkunku does not fit into Amorim's plans and has been left off the club's official list of squad numbers for the season, alongside Fikayo Tomori and Santiago Giménez, confirming he is available for transfer.
Newcastle United have moved ahead of RB Leipzig in the race for the forward, according to Fabrizio Romano, though the Premier League club have yet to reach an agreement with Milan. Galatasaray, who were also offered the player, turned the move down.
