Krösche’s departure was announced on 18 October, following a request from the executive to be relieved of his responsibilities. The decision has prompted renewed speculation over his next move, with Milan reportedly keen to revisit an approach first explored during the summer.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the Rossoneri have made fresh contact with Krösche and are discussing the possibility of bringing him into the club’s senior football structure. The proposed position would be head of football, placing him in a role overseeing sporting operations rather than simply replacing a conventional sporting director.
The two parties are reported to have made progress on the financial side of a potential agreement during the summer. However, further discussions are still required over how the role would function within Milan’s structure, meaning an appointment has not yet been finalised.
Krösche had emerged as a leading candidate for the position before the move failed to materialise. His availability has now changed following the developments in Frankfurt, giving Milan an opportunity to resume discussions.
Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed that Krösche had asked to be released from his duties and that the supervisory board had unanimously accepted the request at an extraordinary meeting on 18 October. His existing contract, which runs until 30 June 2028, will continue under amended terms.
The club also said the decision followed several weeks of open and constructive discussions between Krösche and supervisory board chairman Mathias Beck about Frankfurt’s sporting situation, future direction and continued working relationship.
Krösche played a significant role in shaping Eintracht’s recent progress, helping oversee the club’s recruitment and development during his time in charge of sporting matters. His departure therefore represents a major change for the Bundesliga side, although the terms of his continuing contract mean the separation is not a straightforward cancellation of his agreement.
For AC Milan, the opportunity to recruit an executive with experience in the German market could offer a fresh direction for their football operations. The head-of-football position would require a broader agreement on responsibilities and decision-making, beyond the financial terms reportedly discussed previously.
Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Milan are in advanced talks with Krösche. Nevertheless, the appointment remains subject to an agreement between the parties, and there has been no official announcement from the Italian club.
The timing is notable, with Milan having beaten Atalanta 3-2 at San Siro on the same day Frankfurt confirmed Krösche’s departure. The result and the executive’s availability have placed the club’s immediate sporting progress alongside a potentially significant off-field development.
Milan’s renewed approach now gives the discussions fresh momentum, but the remaining details of the proposed role will need to be settled before Krösche can be confirmed as part of the club’s leadership.
