Manchester United and Chelsea have both been monitoring Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea ahead of the summer window, with the 24-year-old's stock rising sharply after scoring in this season's Copa del Rey final.

According to Marca, both clubs have "closely monitored" the Spanish international's progress throughout the campaign, with his performances described as having left a mark on potential suitors. Barrenetxea opened the scoring in the Copa final as Sociedad lifted the trophy, his second winners' medal in the competition.

He made his Spain debut in March and has contributed three goals and five assists across 29 La Liga appearances this season, with nine contributions in all competitions. His contract at Anoeta runs until 2030 and carries a release clause reported at €75 million, though United are understood to be preparing a formal offer below that figure in the hope of negotiating a deal.

Barrenetxea has spent his entire senior career at Sociedad, coming through the club's celebrated Zubieta academy. He operates primarily on the left wing, cutting inside, and offers pace, technical dribbling and high-energy pressing — a profile Manchester United are specifically targeting as they look to add a natural wide option following the expected departures of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho this summer.

Real Sociedad are not looking to sell and have no intention of opening negotiations, but both clubs are described as having no hesitation in spending significantly when a target fits their project. Chelsea are in the market for wide reinforcements as they reshape their squad under a new head coach expected to arrive this summer.
