Italian journalist Nicolò Schira confirmed the personal terms agreement on Sunday, reporting that Éderson has accepted a contract with United running until June 2031 at a salary of €5million per year. United are now preparing to submit a formal offer to Atalanta to attempt to finalise the deal.
Éderson, 26, joins from a pool that also includes Atlético Madrid, who had also agreed personal terms with the player but have since shifted focus to Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder João Gomes after failing to agree a fee with Atalanta. That development leaves United with a clearer run, though Arsenal and Liverpool have also been monitoring the situation.
Transfer journalist Matteo Moretto had previously reported United as the best-placed club to sign Éderson, with journalist Alfredo Pedullà adding that United were the first club to pursue him formally — an advantage now backed by the personal terms agreement.
Éderson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and has made 178 appearances for the club under former head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, establishing himself as one of Serie A's most complete central midfielders.
He contributed nine goals and seven assists last season and has three caps for Brazil. His contract expires in June 2027 and he has no intention of extending, a stance his agent André Cury made public in January, explicitly stating a transfer would happen this summer.
United need a minimum of two new central midfielders this summer. Manuel Ugarte is expected to join Casemiro in leaving, leaving Kobbie Mainoo as the only guaranteed senior central midfielder at the club. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has approved a significant midfield rebuild ahead of the Champions League campaign.
Atalanta had previously valued Éderson at €75million. With one year remaining on his contract, they have accepted a lower ceiling — though their insistence on a minimum of €45million remains firm. Whether United can structure an offer that satisfies both parties is the question that will determine how quickly this transfer closes.
