Manchester United are set to assess Colombian teenager Cristian Orozco at Carrington after his transfer from Fortaleza CEIF is completed following his 18th birthday later this month.

Orozco featured in 11 first-team squads for Fortaleza CEIF this season in Colombia's top flight, making two substitute appearances and two starts — an indication of why United have identified him as a player with genuine first-team potential rather than pure academy development fodder.

The club's approach to similar recent signings provides a template for what Orozco can expect. Seko Koné from Mali and Diego León from Paraguay both required a settling-in period and spent their first season with the Under-21s.

Enzo Kana-Biyik, who arrived from France and already had European experience, was immediately sent on loan to Lausanne Sport — an Ineos-owned club. Orozco's profile, arriving from South America with no prior European experience, suggests the Koné and León pathway is the more likely one.

Manchester United showed an early commitment to Orozco's integration. He was brought to Manchester in December to visit Carrington and Old Trafford, and took part in training sessions with the academy groups — an unusual step that underlined the club's seriousness about the signing.

English lessons will be provided as he adapts to life in Manchester. A loan move for next season remains possible but will not be decided before the assessment is completed.
