Sky Sport Germany confirmed the approach, though no concrete negotiations have followed and Borussia Dortmund retain a strong negotiating position with Ryerson under contract until 2028. The German club value the player at around โฌ30m, a sum they would not expect United to resist for long given the quality Ryerson would bring.
Ryerson has produced one of the most productive seasons of any defensive player in Europe this term, registering 18 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions โ a figure that places him among the elite attacking contributors in the Bundesliga regardless of position.
He spent much of the season operating as a right wing-back in Niko Kovaฤ's three-back system, bombing forward with consistent effectiveness and delivering a quality of crossing that drew comparison with the game's leading attacking full-backs.
Manchester United's interest is driven by the need to address their right-back options. Diogo Dalot has attracted interest from Real Madrid, while Noussair Mazraoui failed to contribute a single goal or assist across the entire campaign. A player of Ryerson's profile โ who can also operate at left-back โ would give Carrick genuine flexibility and attacking threat from deep.
Newcastle United are also interested, having identified Ryerson as a long-term successor to Kieran Trippier, who left St James' Park this summer. Dortmund are reluctant to sell their most creative defender and hope that competing bids will drive the price above their current valuation. Sporting director Ole Book has previously made clear the club have no desire to let Ryerson leave cheaply.
