That move materialised in the Netherlands, where Willem II have taken him for the rest of the season. He was named among the substitutes for the first time on Saturday and was introduced after 82 minutes, though it proved to be far from a memorable first appearance as Willem II slumped to defeat.
The result leaves the Dutch side second-bottom of the Eredivisie table with just a single point from four matches.
Obi joined Manchester United from Arsenal in 2024 and appeared to be firmly part of first-team plans during his opening season at Old Trafford, making eight senior appearances under Ruben Amorim. Last term brought a sharp change in fortunes, however, with his involvement restricted entirely to youth-team football.
The 18-year-old has amassed a host of caps for Denmark's youth sides during his rise through the ranks, and his goalscoring record at academy level has been extraordinary. In 2024, he set an all-time Premier League Under-18 scoring record, netting 38 goals in 25 appearances, a mark that underlined why United moved to sign him from Arsenal in the first place.
Across all competitions for United's Under-21s last season, he added a further 20 goals in 37 outings, helping the club reach the FA Youth Cup final.
Willem II's loan arrangement with United does not include a purchase option, reflecting the club's view of Obi as a long-term prospect they hope can eventually lead the line at Old Trafford rather than an asset to be sold.
