Matthieu Louis-Jean spoke to RMC Sport following reports of concrete interest from Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Brighton, with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Everton also understood to be monitoring the England Under-21 international's situation.
"We absolutely want to keep him. He is part of the squad's core. He can still develop a lot. For us it is important to continue with him."
Morton joined Lyon from Liverpool last summer in a deal worth up to €15m, after progressing through the Reds' academy without making a significant first-team breakthrough. He has since established himself as one of Ligue 1's most dependable defensive midfielders, making 43 competitive appearances this season — 40 from the start — and contributing two goals and three assists.
Liverpool retained a sell-on clause in Morton's transfer, meaning they would benefit financially from any future deal above the initial fee. Lyon are contracted until June 2030, giving them full control of any negotiations.
The level of English interest reflects Morton's own Premier League experience and the comfort factor for clubs seeking ready-made additions rather than adaptation risk. Lyon's position, however, is clear — for now.
