Liverpool make shock enquiry to Real Madrid over Endrick

Liverpool have made a shock enquiry to Real Madrid over the availability of young forward Endrick Felipe, according to The Times, but face a battle.

Real Madrid are not thought to be open to letting the 20-year-old Brazilian leave this window, giving Liverpool little encouragement despite their interest. The enquiry comes as Andoni Iraola continues his search for attacking reinforcements following a rejected £50m bid for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh.

Endrick's route to regular minutes at the Bernabéu has grown even harder since Real Madrid's £120m capture of Yan Diomandé from RB Leipzig, a deal completed after Liverpool themselves had tried and failed to sign the Ivorian winger. The Reds also had an £85.6m package for Diomandé turned down by Leipzig earlier in the window before Real Madrid moved decisively to complete the signing.

With competition for places in Madrid's forward line only intensifying, Liverpool see an opportunity to prise away a player who spent much of last season on loan at Lyon in search of playing time.

But there is currently no indication that Real Madrid are willing to negotiate, and with the Premier League's transfer window closing at 11pm on 1 September, Liverpool may be forced to explore other options if Real Madrid's stance does not shift.

The approach underlines the scale of Liverpool's rebuild in attack this summer, following the exit of a host of first-team forwards including Mohamed Salah, as Iraola looks to reshape his options before the deadline.

Whether Endrick becomes a serious target or simply one name among several being tested remains to be seen, but for now Real Madrid's refusal to engage leaves Liverpool's search for fresh firepower no closer to being resolved.
