The 34-year-old left Liverpool as a free agent once his contract expired at the end of last season and has been strongly linked with a move to Besiktas, though talks stalled after the Turkish club proved unwilling to meet the financial demands of Salah and his representatives.
According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, city rivals Trabzonspor are now closing in on hijacking the deal, with the club understood to be closing in on personal terms with the forward.
Besiktas are reported to have paused their negotiations with Salah as a result, having previously reached a verbal agreement over a contract running to the summer of 2027 with an option for a further year.
Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reports that Trabzonspor have gone further, offering Salah a deal that would run until 2028, in what would represent one of the more audacious transfer coups in the Super Lig's recent history if completed.
Not everyone in Trabzon is convinced the move is genuine, however: club president Ertugrul Dogan has repeatedly and publicly denied any agreement with Salah's camp, dismissing the reports as baseless even as speculation continues to build around the deal.
With no contract signed on either side and Besiktas' offer technically still on the table rather than withdrawn, Salah's next club remains genuinely unresolved for now, weeks after his Liverpool career came to an end.
Salah leaves Anfield as the club's third-highest goalscorer of all time with 257 goals, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt, following an era-defining spell that brought two Premier League titles and the Champions League among a host of individual and team honours.
Reports earlier in the window also linked him with interest from Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia, though a return to a major European league via Turkey now appears the most likely path, whichever of the two Super Lig suitors ultimately wins the race for his signature.
