Inter Milan, Atalanta and Lazio are all understood to be interested in the 28-year-old, who has yet to make an appearance for Liverpool during the 2026-27 campaign.
The Sun reports that the three clubs are assessing Chiesa ahead of the winter transfer window, citing Calciomercato.it’s report that informal discussions have begun around a possible move.
No concrete negotiations are currently in place, but Chiesa’s lack of involvement at Anfield has created an obvious opening for clubs looking to bring him back to Italy.
The winger joined Liverpool from Juventus in August 2024 for around £10 million after four seasons in Turin. His time in England has failed to develop as expected, with injuries and competition for places restricting his opportunities.
Liverpool also omitted Chiesa from their Champions League squad this season, further underlining the uncertainty around his position in Arne Slot’s plans.
The situation has already prompted speculation over a departure. A loan move was considered last season but did not materialise, leaving Chiesa at Liverpool after the summer reshaping of the squad.
A return to Serie A would offer Chiesa a chance to rebuild his club career in familiar surroundings. Inter, Atalanta and Lazio are now watching closely, although any move will depend on Liverpool’s willingness to sanction a departure.
There is also an international dimension to the situation.
Chiesa has not been included in Roberto Mancini’s recent Italy squads, with the national team coach opting to give opportunities to younger players. Regular football could therefore become important if the winger wants to return to the Azzurri picture.
The 51-cap international remains one of Italy’s most experienced attacking players. He played a major role in the country’s Euro 2020 triumph and has competed at the highest level with both Juventus and Liverpool.
Former Italy manager Luciano Spalletti previously urged Chiesa to leave Liverpool in an effort to revive his career, and the lack of minutes this season has brought that question back into focus.
Liverpool must now decide whether Chiesa remains part of their plans or whether a temporary or permanent exit would make more sense.
With the winter transfer window opening on January 1, the next few months will determine whether the Italian has another opportunity to re-establish himself in Serie A.
