Klopp takes charge of the national team for the first time when Germany open their Nations League campaign away to the Netherlands on September 24, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down following the team's exit at this summer's World Cup.
Wirtz, who didn't play under Klopp at Liverpool, told Sport Bild he has yet to speak with his new international manager directly but has heard plenty about him from team-mates who worked under him at Anfield.
"I haven't spoken to him yet. But a lot of people here at the club have told me about him and said that he's a fantastic guy," Wirtz said.
The 23-year-old added that the appointment had been well received throughout the club, with Klopp having managed Liverpool between 2015 and 2024, winning the Champions League, Premier League and multiple domestic cups during his near-decade in charge.
"It's very, very cool that he's here now. The whole of Liverpool loves him. That's why I'm really looking forward to meeting him in a few months," Wirtz said.
Klopp signed a four-year contract with the German federation that will take him through to the 2030 World Cup, and will be assisted by long-time collaborators Peter Krawietz and Pep Lijnders, both of whom worked alongside him at Liverpool, as well as former German international Sven Bender. Germany's Nations League opener in Amsterdam will mark Klopp's first match in the dugout, with the wider squad set to reconvene for the first time under his management in September.
The appointment ends years of speculation linking Klopp with the national team, with his name having repeatedly surfaced whenever the vacancy arose in the past, including after Joachim Low's departure and again following Hansi Flick's dismissal, though Klopp was unavailable on both occasions due to his commitments at Liverpool.
Nagelsmann's resignation came after Germany suffered a shock round-of-32 exit to Paraguay on penalties, a result that brought his own three-year spell in charge to an abrupt end and opened the door for the DFB to finally land its long-standing preferred candidate.
