All Corinthians players swapped their standard surnames for personal nicknames as part of an initiative driven by pharmaceutical brand Hypera, timed to coincide with the anniversary of Brazil's Generic Drug Act, which was signed on May 20, 1999, and revolutionised access to affordable medication in the country.
The club posted on social media: "In honour of Generic Drug Day, Hypera decided to highlight the importance of these medications in public health, and the People's Team is included to show that the name may be different, but it has the same effect for everyone."
Lingard, 33, started the second leg of Corinthians' Copa do Brasil tie against Barra and played 74 minutes as the Brazilian side progressed 2-0 on aggregate. It was his first-team appearance during a gradual integration into Fernando Diniz's squad since joining in March.
The former Manchester United and England attacking midfielder had already made his mark on the competition before Thursday. In the first leg against Barra last month, Lingard scored a volley after Pedro Raul headed a deflected free-kick across goal — the goal becoming the first scored by a British player in the Copa do Brasil.
Lingard joined Corinthians after leaving FC Seoul at the end of 2025, turning down interest from West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers to take on a new challenge in South America. He is contracted until the end of the year, with a 12-month extension available if certain performance objectives are met.
Memphis Depay is also among Corinthians' overseas contingent. The club currently sit 16th in the Brasileirão after 15 games but have won three of their first four Copa Libertadores matches.
