RC Lens have exercised their purchase option to sign Saudi Arabia right-back Saud Abdulhamid permanently from AS Roma.

The French club confirmed the deal on Thursday after the 26-year-old produced a consistent season in Ligue 1 following a difficult debut campaign in Italy.

AS Roma confirmed the transaction on their official website. Abdulhamid joined Roma from Al-Hilal in the summer of 2024 β€” the first Saudi Pro League signing in the club's modern era β€” but made only four Serie A appearances, contributing a single assist. The Giallorossi sent him to Lens on a season-long loan the following summer to give him consistent playing time.

The French top-flight provided the platform Abdulhamid needed. He scored two goals and contributed four assists in 25 Ligue 1 appearances, 14 from the start β€” a return that gave Lens sufficient confidence to activate the permanent purchase option embedded in the loan agreement.

The fee for the deal has not been disclosed by either club. Abdulhamid is contracted at Lens until the terms agreed with Roma at the outset of the season, with the purchase option now exercised finalising him as a permanent Lens player.
