Ibrahima Konate has published an emotional farewell to Liverpool supporters, expressing deep sadness that he was unable to say goodbye to them at Anfield before his five-year spell at the club came to an end.

The 27-year-old France centre-back's contract expires on June 30 and no renewal has been agreed, despite months of negotiations that stalled over the structure of a new deal. He confirmed his departure in an Instagram post published on Sunday.

"I am deeply saddened that I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game," Konate wrote. "At that moment, I didn't know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted."

He reflected on the full scope of his five years at the club โ€” the trophies, the relationships and the hardship โ€” with particular reference to two losses that defined his time on Merseyside.

"We've shared incredible moments together. Highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever โ€” none more painful than losing our brother Diogo (Jota).

"Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed. During the toughest moments, I gave everything I had for this badge."

Konate joined from RB Leipzig in May 2021 for ยฃ35 million and made 183 appearances across all competitions, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups. He leaves as a Champions League finalist from this season's run to Budapest.

His departure follows those of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, completing a significant reshaping of the squad inherited by incoming head coach Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool confirmed his exit in a brief statement, saying Konate "will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he made" and that everyone at the club "wishes him the best for the future."

Real Madrid remain the frontrunner to sign the France international, who will report for duty with Les Bleus at their World Cup training camp before the tournament begins on June 11.
