Klopp's unveiling as Germany head coach still weeks away

Jürgen Klopp's official presentation as Germany's new national team head coach will have to wait a little longer, with Sky reporting that the German Football Association (DFB) does not expect a signature or formal confirmation to arrive this week.

The finalisation of the deal is now planned for next week in Frankfurt, once the World Cup has concluded, with late July set as the absolute deadline.

The DFB and Klopp have long since reached an agreement in principle over the role, which would see the 59-year-old succeed Julian Nagelsmann after Germany's World Cup campaign ended in a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay. What remains outstanding is a resolution with Red Bull, where Klopp is contracted as Global Head of Soccer until 2029.

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and his deputy Hans-Joachim Watzke met with Red Bull chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff on Tuesday to work through the terms of his departure from the energy drink company.

The two parties are understood to be close to an agreement, with reports suggesting Red Bull is unlikely to demand a compensation fee running into the millions, instead favouring an arrangement in which Klopp continues to share his expertise with the company in a more symbolic advisory capacity. Final details between all parties involved still need to be settled before any announcement can be made.

Should the move go through as expected, Klopp would be handed the task of rebuilding a Germany side that suffered a chastening exit from this summer's World Cup, eliminated at the intermediate round stage on penalties by Paraguay.

Speculation suggests his contract with the DFB would run through to the next World Cup in 2030, giving the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager a long-term project to reshape the national team after a disappointing tournament in North America.

The timeline now points to a formal unveiling once the remaining contractual questions between Klopp, the DFB and Red Bull have been resolved, with all parties said to be working towards a smooth handover rather than a rushed announcement.
