According to Agência RTI Esporte, agents Kia Joorabchian and Giuliano Bertolucci have promised to find Danilo a leading European club, with the move tied to a separate negotiation that could see Guimarães leave Newcastle for Arsenal in a deal worth around €80 million.
Should that transfer go through, Newcastle United would need a replacement in central midfield, and Danilo, who is represented by the same agency as Guimarães, has been positioned as one option under consideration.
The 25-year-old fits the profile Newcastle are looking for and already has experience of English football, having spent time at Nottingham Forest before returning to Brazil last year. Botafogo, however, are not willing to let him leave for just any fee.
The club has already turned down an offer from Palmeiras and has made clear that talks will only open in response to an offer it considers adequate, with an internal valuation of around €40 million seen as the level needed to advance a deal. Reports elsewhere have also linked Danilo with interest from Roma, Galatasaray and Zenit St Petersburg, though he is said to be reluctant to join the Russian club.
Danilo, who represented Brazil at this summer's World Cup, is aware of the interest and reportedly views a return to the Premier League as a significant step in his career.
Botafogo's new ownership group, GDA Luma, is nonetheless working to keep him at the club this window, with plans to inject additional capital beyond what was originally budgeted in its purchase of the club's SAF in order to fund his continued presence in the squad, as well as opening talks over a new contract that would raise his salary and increase his release clause.
Danilo joined Botafogo from Nottingham Forest in July 2025 on a contract until 2029, in a deal worth around €22 million including add-ons, and has since become an important part of the club's sporting project.
