Juventus have moved to hijack Tottenham Hotspur's long-running pursuit of the Liverpool captain, tabling a concrete proposal for the Scotland international as he prepares to leave the club as a free agent on 30 June.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on Monday night, stating that Tottenham had been in advanced talks with Robertson for several weeks and that a deal was close โ before Juventus entered the race with a formal offer of their own. The decision now rests with Robertson.
The 32-year-old had already acknowledged Tottenham's interest publicly.
"Tottenham was close in January. I am not going to deny that. It was a serious consideration, but it did not happen," he told The Overlap.
A deal collapsed in the winter window because Liverpool were unable to identify a suitable replacement in time.
Robertson leaves Liverpool after nine years and 378 appearances in all competitions, with 14 goals and 69 assists across a period in which the club won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He joined from Hull City in the summer of 2017 after earlier spells with Queen's Park and Dundee United.
His position at Anfield became increasingly peripheral this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez, who established himself as first choice at left-back.
The choices now in front of Robertson are starkly different. Tottenham, fresh from surviving relegation by two points on the final day and now under Roberto De Zerbi's five-year project, offer Premier League football and a rebuild from the ground up. Juventus, who finished sixth in Serie A and will play Europa League football next season, offer Serie A, one of European football's most storied environments and a club that matched Atletico Madrid and Napoli in pursuing him.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Tottenham remain favourites. Robertson will decide.
