Spalletti used his press conference following Sunday's 1-0 win at Frosinone to confirm the club were still searching for attacking reinforcement with different qualities to Randal Kolo Muani.
"The forward we're looking for could have different characteristics. Today the spaces were there but we weren't able to exploit them," the coach said, both a nod of encouragement to the Frenchman and confirmation that sporting directors Giovanni Carnevali and Frederic Massara are working to complete the attacking puzzle before the window shuts.
Two names continue to circulate for that forward role. Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee, who already knows Italian football from his time at Parma and Bologna, remains an option, while Atletico Madrid's Alexander Sørloth is also under consideration, with talks over Nico González's move to Spain still open as a possible connecting thread between the two clubs.
Elsewhere, Juventus are working to move on midfielder Fabio Miretti, with Besiktas pushing hard to sign him after a conversation between the Italian and Turkish coach Vincenzo Italiano left him more open to the move.
Besiktas have been in direct contact with the Juventus hierarchy, with Italiano also reaching out to the player personally. The two clubs are negotiating a loan with an option to buy worth an estimated €10-12 million.
Miretti, a graduate of Juventus' academy who returned this summer from a loan at Genoa, is pushing for a permanent departure in search of regular football, and Juventus have opened talks over his exit despite the midfielder not occupying a place on the club's over-22 list.
The Miretti operation is closely tied to Juventus' pursuit of free agent Franck Kessié. Spalletti wants a physically imposing midfielder capable of covering for Khéphren Thuram, and Miretti's departure would help balance the numbers required to register the Ivorian, though the club may also need to move on Teun Koopmeiners to fully complete the incoming deal.
