According to Jijantes, the Argentine forward remains as determined as ever to join Barcelona, a move he has wanted for a long time and one Barça first floated with him many months ago.
Atlético's position shows no sign of shifting. The club turned down a €100 million bid from Barcelona several weeks ago and continues to insist that Álvarez only leaves the Metropolitano if a suitor meets his full €500 million release clause in one payment.
Álvarez had hoped to sit down face to face with Atlético's hierarchy as early as Monday, when he returned to training following his World Cup break and underwent the customary medical examinations. That meeting did not happen; the club made clear through informal channels that it saw nothing to discuss with the forward while its position on his future remains unchanged.
Even so, there is no suggestion Álvarez is preparing to defy the club publicly or refuse to train. His camp's approach, according to Jijantes, remains measured: continue working normally at Atlético while quietly pushing for a resolution behind the scenes.
Barcelona, for their part, see Álvarez as their leading target to reinforce the attack, with Deco having met the player's representatives as recently as last week to keep talks alive on their end.
For now, neither side appears ready to blink. Atlético maintain that Álvarez remains central to their squad heading into the new season, while the player continues working with his agents on the next stage of a saga that looks set to run deep into the final weeks of the transfer window.
It is not the first time Atlético have knocked back interest in the forward this summer — Real Madrid also saw an offer close to €150 million rejected earlier in the window, with the club again pointing to the release clause rather than entertaining negotiations. Álvarez remains under contract at the Metropolitano until June 2030.
