The 24-year-old goalkeeper held a face-to-face meeting with the club's head of global goalkeeping Ben Roberts on Wednesday, making clear his desire to move on. Chelsea, who blocked his exit in January when interest emerged from Porto, Genoa and Besiktas, are now prepared to facilitate a transfer on reasonable terms.
Jørgensen joined from Villarreal for £20.7 million in the summer of 2024 on a seven-year contract. In two seasons at Stamford Bridge he made 12 appearances in all competitions — a number that reflected his position throughout as Robert Sánchez's backup and, at times, a distant third behind the returning Mateusz Wieteska.
His most prominent moment was also his worst. Handed a run of starts by Liam Rosenior in February, Jørgensen conceded five times in a Champions League last-16 second-leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes — a match that ended Chelsea's European campaign and, effectively, his run in the side. He suffered a groin injury immediately afterwards and did not start again until the final weeks of the season.
The change in Chelsea's position from January to now is largely explained by one name: Mike Penders.
The 20-year-old Belgian goalkeeper spent the season on loan at sister club RC Strasbourg, making 52 appearances and impressing sufficiently to earn a recall. Incoming manager Xabi Alonso is expected to assess Penders directly in pre-season, with the expectation internally that the Belgian will compete with Sánchez for the starting role in 2026-27.
With that hierarchy established, there is no clear first-team pathway for Jørgensen at Stamford Bridge. The club want to generate a fee from his departure before the financial year closes in June. Chelsea's pre-season tour takes them to Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Malaysia — Jørgensen will now begin conversations with potential suitors rather than prepare for that trip.
