Matthias Jaissle has accepted responsibility for Newcastle’s poor run of form after supporters voiced their frustration following the 1-0 home defeat by Everton.

The result at St James’ Park was Newcastle United’s fifth defeat in their last seven matches in all competitions, increasing the pressure on the manager after a difficult spell. The Magpies have now lost four of their opening nine Premier League games and sit 13th in the table.

The home supporters made their disappointment clear at the final whistle, with Jaissle acknowledging that their reaction was understandable.

“Great frustration, great disappointment,” he told the BBC.

“After a performance like this, I can understand the fans’ reaction. That is how it is, and I take responsibility for it.”

Newcastle struggled to impose themselves against Everton and were unable to find a response after falling behind. The defeat also came only days after the sides had met in the Carabao Cup, when Everton had won 3-1.

Jaissle did not attempt to deflect blame after the latest setback, instead accepting that his side had significant work to do to improve their performances.

“We have to work on improving, and after today there is a great deal to address,” he added.

The manager’s comments reflected the frustration around St James’ Park, where Newcastle have struggled to find consistency during the opening part of the campaign.

The 1-0 loss was also a damaging result in the context of their league position, with the team now looking to halt their slide and regain momentum. Jaissle’s immediate task is to address the problems exposed against Everton and restore confidence within the squad.

The reaction from supporters underlined the growing concern over Newcastle’s form, while the manager’s willingness to accept responsibility leaves little doubt that he recognises the scale of the challenge ahead.
