Andoni Iraola praised stand-in right-back Adam Smith after Bournemouth's 1-0 win at Fulham.

The Spaniard also declined to confirm whether suspended right-back Álex Jiménez will feature again this season amid a club investigation into alleged messages sent to a 15-year-old girl.

Bournemouth issued a statement on Friday evening confirming that screenshots circulating on social media allegedly showed Jiménez, who turned 21 on Friday, communicating with a teenage girl. The club said the matter was being investigated and excluded him from the squad for the Fulham match.

Jiménez, who joined permanently from AC Milan in February for £17million after a loan spell, has been one of the most consistent performers in Bournemouth's historic season. He made 32 appearances and had attracted renewed interest from his former club Real Madrid.

Iraola was measured in his response before kick-off at Craven Cottage.

"The club has to do their investigations and see what has really happened. We will then move from there. I hope it is not what we think."

After the 1-0 victory, Iraola addressed how the squad had handled the circumstances.

"I think this group of players is demonstrating to me, and not only today but every day, that they want very much to achieve the objective. They are all pushing hard."

He singled out Smith, who had 24 hours' notice he was playing.

"Until yesterday he did not know he was going to play and today he has played, run, made cover runs — he was incredible defensively. What I would like to highlight is how Adam Smith has reacted to this."

On whether Jiménez would return before the end of the season, Iraola was direct.

"At this moment there is an investigation under way and I am not going to get involved in that. I do not know how long it will take, but I will have to wait until the investigations clarify the situation."

Iraola also addressed speculation linking him with Crystal Palace as his replacement for the departing Oliver Glasner, declining to confirm or deny the interest ahead of any formal contact.

Bournemouth's win keeps them sixth with two matches remaining. Champions League qualification through the league remains a possibility if Aston Villa win the Europa League and finish fifth.
