Jones has made clear to his representatives that Inter Milan are his only consideration, going as far as denying speculation linking him to other clubs on social media, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Personal terms and agent commissions have already been settled between the two parties; what remains is an agreement between Inter and Liverpool on a fee.
Liverpool have been holding out for €40m, but Inter believe the deal can be done for between €30m and €35m, helped by Jones's contract situation — he has just one year left on his deal beyond this season, running to 2027, raising the prospect of losing him for nothing if he doesn't sign an extension.
Inter's move for the 24-year-old has been unlocked by the departure of Davide Frattesi to Lazio, a deal structured as a loan with an obligation to buy for around €14m, conditional on Lazio finishing the season in the top 12, plus a 20% sell-on clause for Inter.
Fabrizio Romano, discussing the situation on his YouTube channel, explained the sequence of events still to play out: "Frattesi goes and Inter are now ready to go back to Liverpool for Jones.
"I don't think it's an instant mechanism, it will take a bit of patience, from next week onwards. Over the weekend Inter will complete Frattesi to Lazio and the arrival of Spence, then focus on Jones. The feeling is that with €35 million a deal can be reached.
"It's clear Liverpool won't offer further discounts, and we'll see the final figure Inter present. I can guarantee the player continues to tell his agents he doesn't want to consider any other situation — as long as Inter are there, Curtis Jones isn't listening to other offers."
Sporting director Piero Ausilio is expected to reopen formal talks with Liverpool once the Frattesi and Djed Spence paperwork is completed this weekend, with head coach Cristian Chivu viewing Jones as the final piece needed to complete his midfield.
The mood around the club's other new arrivals has been upbeat, too. Manuel Akanji, back in Milan after Switzerland's World Cup campaign, welcomed former Manchester City teammate John Stones to Inter with a message on Instagram: "Welcome to the Inter family, brother.
"Back with the team, ready for the new season."
Stones completed his own free transfer to Inter this summer and had also just returned from his own post-tournament break, with the pair reuniting at San Siro for the first time since their years together under Pep Guardiola.
