Switzerland international Yann Sommer, 37, leaves Inter Milan at the end of the season after three years as first choice, having made 139 competitive appearances and kept 66 clean sheets.
He departs as one of the finest goalkeepers in the club's history, central to their three consecutive Serie A campaigns and the recent Scudetto and Coppa Italia double under coach Cristian Chivu. Inter chose not to offer him a contract renewal.
Martínez, 27, had originally been one of the players Inter identified as potentially surplus to requirements. The Spanish goalkeeper joined from Genoa in the summer of 2024 but made only 10 competitive appearances in his first season, operating firmly behind Sommer.
His performances when called upon — particularly in the Coppa Italia semi-finals — shifted the internal assessment, and he subsequently informed the club he would stay only if guaranteed the number one shirt.
Inter agreed to that condition. Vicario had been the club's preferred companion signing for Martínez, with contractual terms agreed between Inter and the England international. However, the fee demanded by Tottenham — understood to be in the region of £17m — proved prohibitive and the deal was frozen.
Kepa, 31, has emerged as the alternative. He joined Arsenal from Chelsea last summer for £5m and spent the season as David Raya's understudy, making 11 appearances. Inter are attracted to his experience — two Champions League titles, the Europa League, a Premier League medal — and believe he would accept a back-up role in Milan if competitive football is part of the arrangement.
His release clause at Arsenal is understood to be relatively modest, which gives Inter a straightforward route to the player if personal terms can be agreed.
