Inter established control early at San Siro, scoring twice inside the opening 20 minutes to put Alberto Gilardino’s Parma under immediate pressure. Sučić opened the scoring before Çalhanoğlu doubled the advantage, leaving the visitors with a difficult task on their new coach’s first outing.
Thuram completed the result in the second half, ensuring Inter collected three points ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
Chivu was pleased with his team’s performance and explained that managing players’ workloads would be essential as the schedule intensified. Çalhanoğlu was substituted after an hour, with the coach confirming that the decision had been planned to help the midfielder improve his condition without taking unnecessary risks.
“He is fine,” Chivu said. “We gave him an hour to give him the opportunity to improve his condition. It was the right moment after a very good week of work. We have a demanding run of matches ahead, so we have to make these kinds of decisions. We are happy with how he responded.”
The Inter coach also discussed Djed Spence’s adaptation after the defender had spent only a week working with the team. Chivu urged patience, saying the player needed time on the training ground and minutes on the pitch before expectations could be raised.
“We should enjoy the first match,” he said. “We must not forget that he has had only a week working with the team. We cannot expect too much. He needs training sessions and minutes, and we hope he can improve by working with us every day.”
Chivu also praised Federico Dimarco’s tactical intelligence, explaining that the wing-back’s positioning on the right was part of Inter’s movement and rotations rather than a fixed change of role.
For Gilardino, the defeat was a difficult start to life as Parma coach, but he took encouragement from his side’s response after falling two goals behind.
“Parma started well, but when you make naive mistakes, you pay for them,” Gilardino said. “Being 2-0 down after 20 minutes makes things difficult. I can take positive feedback from individual performances and from the second half, because we stayed in the game.”
The Parma coach was particularly frustrated by the third goal, but remained confident that his players could improve. He said the team had created three or four significant situations against a strong opponent and should not be condemned for the early errors.
Gilardino also highlighted the performances of his two forwards and welcomed the return of Adrián Bernabé, while acknowledging that better decisions were needed in possession. He challenged Mohamed Touré to take greater responsibility in attack, saying the striker had the technical and physical qualities to make the next step.
Chivu, meanwhile, expressed sympathy for former Parma coach Carlos Cuesta, while wishing Gilardino well in his new role.
Inter Milan’s convincing win provided an ideal start to a demanding stretch of fixtures, while Parma were left to focus on correcting their mistakes and building on the more encouraging aspects of their second-half display.
