Inter Milan's head coach struck a relaxed tone in his post-match assessment of the pre-season derby, which finished level after Federico Dimarco's second-half opener was cancelled out by a Christopher Nkunku penalty.
"It's a friendly, an August match," Chivu said. "Ours and the opposition's aren't peak conditions. You try to do good things and give everything even if the legs aren't sharp."
Asked about Francesco Pio Esposito and Bonny increasingly starting in the absence of Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram, he was full of praise for the pair.
"They've earned their place in this squad, they're two young players of great talent and Italian champions – let's not forget they gave a lot last season."
On his defence, with Benjamin Pavard again featuring prominently after 76 minutes on the pitch, Chivu pointed to the squad's strength in depth.
"Of Pavard, of Bisseck, of Bastoni and of Carlos Augusto, of those who are here, we only have four. They're doing great work, giving their all, I'm happy for everyone, we've managed to get minutes into legs."
Hakan Calhanoglu, meanwhile, struck a similarly measured tone after the draw, pointing ahead to the club's next fixture.
"We're working very hard, we're all a bit tired, but it's important to work on our legs," he said. "We have to look forward, the next match will also be tough – with Juventus – and it will be important to start Serie A well."
Asked about the penalty that allowed Milan to equalise through Nkunku, the Turkey international was unimpressed by the decision but pragmatic in his response.
"We were unlucky with the penalty, everyone saw there wasn't one. But that's fine, the referee gave it."
On the squad still not being at full strength, he added: "Some team-mates still have to return after their post-World Cup holidays, including Stones: everyone is welcome."
Inter's next test comes on Saturday, when Chivu's side face Juventus in a second friendly in Perth before returning to Italy to complete their pre-season preparations ahead of the new Serie A campaign, which begins in 17 days.
