Hull City are set to land Jack Butland from Rangers for £3m while selling Ivor Pandur for £6m, with Kyle Joseph also heading to Middlesbrough as the Premier League newcomers balance their books.

Butland, 33, brings ready-made top-flight experience to Hull having previously played for both Stoke City and Crystal Palace before his 2023 move to Rangers. Pandur, who is currently away with Croatia at the World Cup, is the more valuable commodity in the arrangement.

Kyle Joseph is also set to leave Hull, with Middlesbrough closing in on the striker for £5m. Joseph scored eight goals and provided five assists for Hull last season despite starting only 27 of 46 Championship games. The 24-year-old had an earlier offer from Millwall before Middlesbrough pushed to complete the deal, and he is expected to undergo a medical at the Riverside.

In separate news, Hull have had a formal bid for Toulouse striker Emersonn rejected. The offer was worth £15.1m plus £2.2m in add-ons — a total of £17.3m — and has been turned down. Daily Mail Sport had previously reported Hull's opening proposal was rebuffed, and the situation has not moved forward.

The incomings and outgoings this summer reflect Hull's need to balance their books while simultaneously strengthening for their first Premier League season in several years. The Butland deal addresses an immediate goalkeeping need, while the failed Emersonn bid underlines the difficulty of recruiting in the attacking department at their preferred price points.

The Pandur and Joseph sales together with the incoming Butland deal represent a net gain that will help Hull demonstrate compliance with PSR requirements before the deadline. Their status as a newly promoted side means they have both the incentive and the urgency to get business done quickly, though the failed Emersonn bid suggests they are not prepared to overpay for attacking targets regardless of the financial pressure they face.

Hull's ability to complete further signings will depend on whether they can generate additional funds or whether they can identify value options within their budget. The summer is still early and the situation is developing rapidly.
