The result means Jakirović's promoted side have taken seven points from three Premier League games, keeping a clean sheet, while Villa search for greater fluency in front of goal on the road as they integrate a host of summer arrivals.
"We planned this match the way we played. We were trying to dominate the match with our positioning, keeping possession of the ball as much as possible, and not conceding transitions, free-kicks or corners was our objective throughout the match," Aston Villa manager Unai Emery told BBC's Match of the Day.
"During the game, we tried to feel comfortable, create some good individual actions and be clinical. We created around five good chances to score. The next step for us is to continue building the team and try to correct a few things offensively. We are improving, but not enough."
Emery pointed to the adjustment period facing several of his new signings.
"The players who joined us need some adaption. Some our adapting quicker than others. In everything we are building, we must try and add the players who joined us in the direction we want," he said.
The Villa boss also struck a philosophical note about his side's overall trajectory this season.
"Overall, I can tell the fans and the players that I understand this is the way. In the last four years, with the success and performances we have had, we have had some days like today."
Jakirović was satisfied with a point against one of the division's stronger sides.
"I'm realistic. I think this is a realistic result. We gave everything we had. They had two clear chances, we also could win the game at the end," the Hull City boss said. "I won't be ungrateful, this is a great result for us. Seven points, three games. Clean sheet. Let's move on."
He also addressed blending his squad after a disrupted pre-season for several arrivals.
"I know the core of my team, this is the Championship players. Of course, we brought the players in to put some quality there. We have," Jakirović said. "The big problem for me is who didn't have a pre-season. This is a very big problem. But we will try."
Asked about Oli McBurnie's late chance to snatch a winner, Jakirović pointed to fatigue after a taxing display out of possession.
"Maybe fatigue, because it's a great effort from Oli. It is very demanding because we were out of possession which is very normal," he said. "Aston Villa is a good time, they need more time with their new players. Same with Ali-Cho."
