Ahead of Saturday's visit of Aston Villa, the Hull City manager said terms have still to be finalised, despite reports last month suggesting the paperwork had already been completed.
"Very soon. I will sign very soon, not yet," Jakirovic said. "Easy decision, since day one, it's an easy decision."
The Bosnian was appointed at the MKM Stadium in June 2025 on an initial two-year deal and led Hull to an unlikely promotion from the Championship, rescuing the club from a real threat of relegation to League One before guiding them to the play-off final, where they beat Middlesbrough at Wembley.
His current contract runs until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend for a further year, though the new terms on the table are understood to represent a significant improvement on that deal.
Jakirovic also addressed the size of his squad following a summer of heavy recruitment at Hull City, with the club having brought in a raft of new faces before the window closed.
"No, for me this is excellent because we have good competition," he said.
"We have in every position, at least two players. You know how difficult a season is, we already lost some players because of injuries so we will try always to put the best 11, but no matter who will start in the game it is very important for me who will finish the game.
"So that we have options there, we can change our shape also, system, also they can bring quality for every head coach it's a good situation."
On his approach to strengthening the squad, Jakirovic said Hull's fast start to the campaign has changed the club's standing in the transfer market.
"We had our shortlist but you know in this business it's always something new," he said. "It's coming to us, especially after two victories on the start of the season. They start to call us, agents and the players.
"Always we are trying to bring better players because this is everything about quality. If it's a similar player as we have in the building then what's the point? We try to improve, add quality."
Hull go into the Villa fixture on the back of two Premier League wins from two, having returned to the top flight last term for the first time since 2021.
