Hoffenheim have lost three of their opening four Bundesliga matches, winning only once, while their Europa League campaign also began with defeat.
Schicker insists the club will not make fundamental changes during the international break and remains convinced by the work being carried out by Ilzer and his squad.
“We have to get through this difficult phase now. I am 100 per cent convinced of our path, but there are a few things we clearly have to do better,” Schicker told Bild.
The 40-year-old acknowledged that Hoffenheim must improve after their poor opening results but does not believe the current situation warrants a major change in approach.
The international break has also limited the amount of collective work Ilzer can do with his squad, with several players away on international duty.
Hoffenheim will therefore use the break to assess their start before attempting to turn their Bundesliga form around when domestic action resumes.
Schicker’s comments represent continued support for Ilzer despite the pressure created by the club’s results in both domestic and European competition.
Hoffenheim are now focused on improving their performances rather than making immediate changes to their sporting strategy.
