Mason Greenwood has emerged as the priority transfer target for both candidates in Fenerbahce's presidential election, with Aziz Yildirim and Hakan Safi identifying the Marseille forward as the profile they want to build around.

Greenwood, 24, has scored 48 goals in 81 appearances for Marseille since joining permanently from Manchester United for €31.6 million in July 2024. He finished joint second in the Ligue 1 golden boot standings this season with 16 goals, behind only Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul.

Marseille's new sporting director Gregory Lorenzi confirmed last week that the club is willing to listen to offers for Greenwood, who has three years remaining on his five-year deal with the French club. Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle — Fenerbahce's president, whoever takes the role, would be willing to meet Greenwood's salary demands.

Greenwood rebuilt his career in France following the withdrawal of charges of attempted rape and assault by Greater Manchester Police in February 2023 and a subsequent internal Manchester United investigation that concluded he could not play for the club again.

In April, newly appointed Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi apologised for comments defending Greenwood made during his time as Marseille manager.

Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish Super Lig for a fifth consecutive season and will enter the Champions League in the second qualifying round in July, giving them European football to offer prospective signings.

AS Roma have also been linked with a move for Greenwood in recent days. United included what club sources described as a "sizeable sell-on fee" when they completed the sale to Marseille — meaning any transfer from Paris would generate a further payment for Old Trafford.
