Ayyoub Bouaddi is closing in on a big-money move to Manchester City, with Olivier Giroud predicting a major future for the young Lille midfielder.

The 18-year-old truly broke through during this summer's World Cup, impressing with strong performances at the heart of Morocco's midfield. He is now reportedly closing in on an agreement with Manchester City for a transfer from the Ligue 1 club.

Giroud, who has shared a dressing room with Bouaddi at Lille, believes the teenager has a big future ahead of him.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the veteran striker relayed comparisons some of his contacts have drawn with two of the finest midfielders of recent decades.

"I've spoken to some friends, and they've sent me pictures of Patrick Vieira and Sergio Busquets. They say he is a mix of the two," Giroud said.

He went on to break down exactly where Bouaddi's game currently stands in relation to those two greats.

"Technically he's not quite at Busquets' level yet, but he still has real technique. He might also be missing a bit of power compared to Vieira, but he's going to get bigger and stronger."

Giroud also highlighted the young midfielder's range across the pitch: "He's a very complete player, who can cover a lot of ground — a bit like N'Golo Kanté."

One area for improvement was flagged by the Lille striker, who said it is something Bouaddi is already well aware of himself.

"There's one thing he needs to improve, and he knows it too, because we've teased him about it a lot: his finishing. He needs to be more aggressive in front of goal."

Giroud, who joined Lille from Los Angeles FC last summer, remains one of the most experienced voices in the Lille dressing room, giving added weight to his assessment of a player being tipped for a major move to the Premier League champions.
