Friedkin Group confident Roma and Everton can both compete in Europe without UEFA penalty

The Friedkin Group, which owns both AS Roma and Everton, is confident that neither club will face UEFA sanctions even if they qualify for the same European competition β€” a scenario that has become increasingly plausible given their league positions.

AS Roma sit sixth in Serie A and are in contention for a Champions League place. Everton, ninth in the Premier League, remain within reach of European qualification.

UEFA regulations prohibit two clubs under common ownership from competing in the same tournament, with the higher-ranked club taking precedence if a conflict arises.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma's leadership has already studied all possible scenarios and emerged untroubled by the prospect.

The Giallorossi are understood to believe that structural arrangements within the Friedkin Group's ownership model mean both clubs could coexist in the same competition without Roma being penalised.

UEFA has previously handled similar cases, including those involving Crystal Palace and Lyon, and Manchester City and Girona, establishing precedent for how such ownership overlaps are assessed and managed.

The situation will become clearer once both leagues conclude and the final standings determine which European competitions each club enters.
